Banana Time!

My sister took some photos of the remaining 2012 Evita babies yesterday. They may not be high-end photos, but they’re pretty adorable 🙂

Where have you been?

For the past few weeks I haven’t really been on the computer much. I’ve neglected my favourite forums, and have a pile of e-mails I need to get back to. I also really need to take new pictures of the babies who seem to just keep getting bigger and prettier.

So where have I been?

As it turns out, my newest arrival:

New Arrival: Grumpy the Merauke

New Arrival: Grumpy the Merauke

Brought some unwelcome new arrivals along with him – mites.

So for the past few weeks I’ve been spending all my time in an full-out assault on these annoying little bugs. They never actually turned up on any other reptiles in the house, but I decided to be really safe and just treat everyone in the house as infected. I am happy to report that I haven’t seen a living mite for 2 weeks now 🙂 But I plan to keep treating everyone for a few more weeks to make sure.

So I am sorry if I haven’t gotten back to an e-mail yet, I’ll be getting to them now, and I’ll be back on the forums soon.

Many thanks,
Melanie

Winter at ME

It’s cold and snowy here in Winnipeg. But my home is toasty warm and full of adorable little faces. Happy Holidays from Mel’s Exotics!

A Happy Post

To even out the previous sad post, I want to welcome home some new faces. My order of fat tail geckos arrived this week, and I couldn’t be more thrilled. None of the babies have names yet (I’m working on it, just need the right ones), but I do have some pictures! I will of course have better photos once they’re settled in.

A Sad Post

Today I have two posts, a sad one and a happy one. I’m starting with the sad one.

I want to take a moment to say goodbye to a few reptiles who have passed away here these past few months. Every animal here is loved, and losses are very painful. I will always remember them and cherish the time they were in my life.

The most recent, and possibly the most painful, loss was my beautiful monkey tail skink, Betty. She and Veronica were a special treasure to me, and having her gone is terrible. I’ve spent a lot of time with Betty as she’s had her ups and downs. I am so happy to have spent part of my life with her, and just wish it could have been longer. RIP beautiful Betty.

Veronica, Betty’s housemate, also seems to miss her. I may send Veronica to a friend in Alberta in the hopes she can make a new skink-friend or two. She too will be missed, but at least I’ll know she’s in the best possible place.

Another long-time friend who sadly passed recently was Clue, the caramel northern blue tongue. Clue has lived with me since he was a baby, and while he never much liked me I loved him and his feisty attitude. He had crippling MBD, but never let that stop him or slow him down. Despite vet help, he passed away a few months ago. RIP my bitey friend.

I am sad to say the other two reptiles who passed were not with me for long. Kitty, the vietnamese blue beauty snake I recently got, passed away suddenly two weeks after getting home, cause unkown. I will be getting another from the same breeder next year, and plan to name it Kitty Remix in memory of Kitty.

And little baby Elise passed away suddenly a couple months ago. She was born with her stomach a bit odd looking, but as she grew it disappeared, so I stopped worrying. I guess there must have been an internal issue, and she passed. She was full of spunk in her bin, and was a great cuddle-buddy for watching movies.

I wish I could have gotten to know both of them better and seen them grow up. RIP little friends.

Winnipeg’s Exotic Animal Bylaw – Please Sign The Petition!

Reptile enthusiasts in Winnipeg, MB, including myself, are asking the city to ammend our Exotic Animal Bylaw in a way that keeps the community safe and makes the law easy to follow and enforce. The meeting with the city is drawing close and we can use the support of the community. Please take a moment to sign your name:

Some New Photos

I took some new random photos here recently and feel like sharing.

My newest additions

ME is happy to welcome some new critters to the collection:

Kitty is a Vietnamese Blue Beauty, bred locally by my friend Rich. We agreed to trade babies; Fyre went to a great new home with him, and Kitty came to stay with me <3

I also brought home a new African Fat Tail from Steve at ProExotics. She’s an adorable little striped lass who has yet to be named:

Lastly, I’ve already introduced these two, but I took better pictures of my other AFT ladies, who also still need names:
