Today I have two posts, a sad one and a happy one. I’m starting with the sad one.
I want to take a moment to say goodbye to a few reptiles who have passed away here these past few months. Every animal here is loved, and losses are very painful. I will always remember them and cherish the time they were in my life.
The most recent, and possibly the most painful, loss was my beautiful monkey tail skink, Betty. She and Veronica were a special treasure to me, and having her gone is terrible. I’ve spent a lot of time with Betty as she’s had her ups and downs. I am so happy to have spent part of my life with her, and just wish it could have been longer. RIP beautiful Betty.
Veronica, Betty’s housemate, also seems to miss her. I may send Veronica to a friend in Alberta in the hopes she can make a new skink-friend or two. She too will be missed, but at least I’ll know she’s in the best possible place.
Another long-time friend who sadly passed recently was Clue, the caramel northern blue tongue. Clue has lived with me since he was a baby, and while he never much liked me I loved him and his feisty attitude. He had crippling MBD, but never let that stop him or slow him down. Despite vet help, he passed away a few months ago. RIP my bitey friend.
I am sad to say the other two reptiles who passed were not with me for long. Kitty, the vietnamese blue beauty snake I recently got, passed away suddenly two weeks after getting home, cause unkown. I will be getting another from the same breeder next year, and plan to name it Kitty Remix in memory of Kitty.
And little baby Elise passed away suddenly a couple months ago. She was born with her stomach a bit odd looking, but as she grew it disappeared, so I stopped worrying. I guess there must have been an internal issue, and she passed. She was full of spunk in her bin, and was a great cuddle-buddy for watching movies.
I wish I could have gotten to know both of them better and seen them grow up. RIP little friends.
